Wings For Success

Wings For Success’ offers a workshop called "Next Step...Success" The structure of this program allows us the flexibility to break our workshops down over the course of several weeks, when needed, thus making them more detailed regarding positive body image, shopping on a budget, interviewing tips, proper hair styling and makeup and, of course, wardrobe guidance. We can also do this program as a one-day event if that is more convenient.

Program Overview

Purpose: Provide low income women with appropriate dressing guidelines and positive body image to build their confidence and self-esteem. 1) Positive Body Image
This section of the workshop will help participants identify their body shape and learn how to best dress for that shape. Understanding appropriate dressing for shape, size, age, and type of workplace is essential for projecting a positive professional image. How to build a basic wardrobe and enhance it by mixing and matching various pieces will also be discussed. Handouts and guides will be provided to each participant. 2) Shopping on a Shoestring
This section of the workshop will be used for educating participants about effective use of coupons, sale and clearance racks, end of season sales, consignment stores, and discount department stores. Emphasis will be placed on quality versus quantity, avoiding fashion trends, and buying for your body type. Discussions on the importance of trying on items before buying to ensure a comfortable, good fit will be held. Handouts and guides will be provided to each participant.

3) Hair Styles and Care
Professional hair stylists will instruct and suggest proper cut and/or style for each participant. Emphasis will be on proper hair care, specific to ethnicity and will include such problems as split ends, conditioning and damage done by color, perm, braiding, extensions and other products. Discussions on business appropriate hair styles and color will be included. Each participant will receive a complimentary hair cut and style and full size products to maintain her new look.

4) Make-up and Nails
Professional instruction will be held on makeup application and appropriate makeup for work atmosphere and time of day. Special attention will be placed onto skin care for participants’ skin type, age, skin conditions, and ethnicity. Proper nail care will be covered, including manicures, polish, length, and cleanliness. Participants will receive hands-on instruction on makeup application and will receive full size products to maintain their new look.

5) Do’s and Don’ts at Job Interviews and On The Job
Professional human resource instructors will assist with everything from resume writing to mock interviews. Discussions will also continue with information on proper conduct and problem solving at work. Each participant will get an example of why and how to write a "thank you" and then be given blank note cards with postage, a pen, pencil and a notepad to take home.

6) Dressing for Success
Each participant will have a one-on-one dressing appointment and receive approximately 8 to 10 pieces of clothing, plus shoes, stockings, bra and accessories. Wings’ volunteers will make sure each items fits the clients’ shape, size, age, and workplace. This will provide each client with two interview outfits, plus a starter wardrobe for their new job.

Other reminders

These programs can be held either in the evening or during the day, and be either broken down into several one to two-hour sessions or conducted as a single day event.
Dressing appointments are done separately at our office with no more than 4 or 5 clients coming at one time.
Hair and make-up will always be done at the same session.
Each workshop will be limited to no more than 12 clients.
Our workshops continue to be offered at NO CHARGE TO CLIENTS OR REFERRAL PARTNERS.
